Every year in early February, the Grammy Awards take place in Staples Center. While that’s great for the music industry, it leaves local sports fans bereft. This week Kobe Bryant and the Lakers have two theoretically easy games at Atlanta and Toronto, and two tough ones at Detroit and Cleveland. If the Lakers are to prove their worth in the second half of the season, this is the time to do it.

The Clippers are on their longest road trip of the year. During the Eastern journey they’ll try to establish their legitimacy in games against New York, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Indiana. Thus far, the Clips have been abysmal away from Staples Center, and with the second half of the season underway, it’s time to make a move if they hope to be playing in May.

It just doesn’t get any better for the poor Kings. The last-place squad travels to Tampa Bay, Washington and Nashville in what has become a season that cannot end soon enough.

The Trojans travel across town to take on the archrival UCLA Bruins, who they fell to in a heartbreaker last month. This game is crucial for the top-25 team.

Saturday, Feb. 10, 11 a.m.: The UCLA Lady Bruins come to the Galen Center and try to topple the Lady Trojans, who stand just above them in top-heavy PAC-10 Conference.
