Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers are on the road all week, finishing up a three-game set against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. Then they go to D.C. to take on the Washington Nationals (Aug. 26-28), where recently re-acquired hurler Greg Maddux is slated to make his second start with the Dodgers this year. The Blue Crew finishes the trip in Arizona (Aug. 29-31) where they tangle with those pesky, division-leading Diamondbacks.

Los Angeles Sparks

Thursday, Aug. 28, 7:30 p.m.: After the WNBA’s month-long break for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Los Angeles Sparks kick off the final leg of their season against the Sacramento Monarchs. The teams are jostling for third place in the Western Conference, and only seven games remain before the playoffs. Two big questions entering the game are: Can Sparks stars Lisa Leslie, Candace Parker and DeLisha Milton-Jones shake of their jetlag and play 100%? And while that trio played a major role helping Team USA to an undefeated record in Beijing (as of press time), have the rest of the Sparks been able to stay sharp?

Saturday, Aug. 30, 7:30 p.m.: The Sparks face a crucial test against the conference leading San Antonio Silver Stars. A victory could be just the boost the Sparks need to reacquire the confidence that helped ignite a 10-3 run to begin the season. After starting so hot, the Sparks went on to quietly post a 5-9 record heading into the break. The Sparks are 1-1 against the Stars this year, and after Saturday’s game, they’ll play again in San Antonio on Sept. 5.
